In addition, we’re collaborating to address abuse prevention, and how pastors …
If we will only listen to people in pain when they articulate clearly and calmly, then we will never listen at all. What happened to me repeatedly and agonizingly must never happen to another child of the OPC.
I do not wish to harm the OPC, but I have been grievously harmed within it. I fear that to apologize for my grief could imply to other survivors that they should not express their own grief, so I cannot do that. Rather, I beg you to be patient with me. Try to see the world and our denomination through my eyes. I want it to be my home, but I also want it to be safe.
I am sorry that it has come to this. I have tried to warn, to hold accountable in private, to encourage righteousness and honor. No one listens. No one cares. You fear the abuser more than you fear God.
Originally, when I submitted this to New Horizons, I did not name names. However, I have since edited and updated the piece, because I believe that honesty is incredibly important at this time. A follow up article detailing further abuse and failures within the OPC will be posted shortly.
