I Dearly Miss the Smell of Books

I dearly miss the smell of books, the crunch of a sewn binding, and the feel of holding a whole world in my hands. There is a kind of ownership in holding a book which digital technology cannot duplicate. There is a tactile connection one feels with the characters when one is traveling through their lives with every ink-scented letter, and every gentle scrape of a turning page. One takes loving care of a good book; one reads it, and loves, it and places it safely back on the shelf to be read again one day. One does not care so much about digital books; one reads it, but never touches it, and deletes it once finished to make room for another book that isn’t really there.
